During high season (May- October ) Venice is really crowded and more expensive. Stay there in the winter, it's more calm, relaxing and less expensive.  Be sure to go to the top of St. Marks Cathedral and go out on the roof & take pictures of the square & of the Adriatic. The Florian Cafe is well worth the expense to sit & listen to the orchestra while drinking a glass of wine at sunset. Expect to pay a hefty price for the privilege of visiting Venice!

North Cyprus is the undiscovered jewel of the Med, steeped in history and warmed by an eight-month summer. Its monasteries, Roman ruins and mosaics and multitude of tiny, sandy inlets are mostly deserted, the people's welcome as warm as the sun.

Hong Kong is a great place to visit for the casual and discriminating traveler. Hong Kong has some of the best hotels in the world, excellent shopping and great food. Take the tram up to the Peak. The views from the Peak to Victoria harbor are spectacular. The nightly laser light show on Hong Kong Island is best seen from Kowloon. The Hong Kong Dollar has been pegged to the US Dollar for many years and has not depreciated in value. Still Honk Kong is not cheap but worth a visit.

We decided to take a cruise on a large ship and dive in Bermuda. Because of the cost of hotels in Bermuda this seemed like a good way to check it out.

The Ship:

We booked a last minute deal on the Norwegian Majesty out of Boston. It is about a twelve hour drive to Boston. We left Boston on Sunday, got to St. George on Tuesday morning and left at noon on Friday. The ship is huge and was full. There was nowhere to get away from all the people, kids, teens, grandparents, partying college boys!! We could not spend any time near the pool because of the constant loud music and crush of people. The food aboard was Okay but not great. Even the midnight chocolate buffet was only Okay. We did spend extra to eat in the specialty restaurant and there the food was very good. We found the food to be ?American bland?, even the lunch version of Jamaican jerk chicken was not spicy.

The Diving:

The ship was supposed to be able to book diving for us but they could not get an answer from the shop they use. We managed to contact a shop in Hamilton to arrange diving. We had to take the bus an hour to get to Hamilton, but the only dive shop at the east end was not going out due to strong winds. We dove two days and both days went to the same two sites due to the winds. The first dive was on the Montana Constellation wrecks. The wrecks from the book movie The Deep and the second dive was on the Larington another wreck. The first site was full of bits of cargo, the cement bags, slate pool table tops, and ampoules of morphine and other drugs and lots of bits of broken bottles but the wrecks are fairly flattened. The second site is a flattened wreck and a fairly nice reef. The diving was easy, maximum 30 feet deep with 50 foot of viz and water at 80 degrees.

The Island:

The island itself is beautiful, the people are friendly and the buses efficient. The food was good and not as expensive as expected. We ate at the Hogpenny ? their Bermuda Fish Chowder with a shot of rum when served was delicious. We ate and drank at the Swizzle Inn ? their Rum Swizzle is great, seating on the upper deck sipping away on a sunny afternoon. Fort George is a neat little town to explore ? don't miss the perfume factory. The zoo and the marine museum were good. The small parks with all their flowers and flowering trees were beautiful.

Wrap-up:

The best question is would you go somewhere again? The answer is yes to Bermuda and no to cruise ships. While it was not the best diving we have ever done, we did not get to the best sites. The island, people and food were great and it would be nice to go back and have more time to see the south side of the island.
